It was the final, nail-biting hole of the annual Oak Creek Country Club Championship. The pressure was immense, the gallery was silent, and it all came down to a single, seemingly impossible six-inch putt that Martha had to make to secure the trophy for their team.
She stepped up to the green, adjusted her visor, and took her stance. But as she looked down the short line, a sudden, visible tremor ran through her hands. She took a deep breath, swung her putter, and… tapped it just a fraction of an inch to the left. The ball lipped out. They lost the match.
The car ride home was thick with tense, heavy silence. Arthur, a man who took his golf far too seriously, was absolutely fuming. He gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white, before finally exploding.
“I simply cannot believe you missed that putt, Martha!” he sputtered, shaking his head in disbelief. “That putt was no longer than my willy!”
Martha slowly turned her head, looked him dead in the eye, and offered a sweet, perfectly serene smile.
“Yes, dear,” she replied smoothly, “but it was much harder.”
