Beatrice was a passionate gardener with a green thumb and a deep love for heirloom vegetables. However, she had one persistent frustration: no matter how much water, sunlight, or organic fertilizer she used, her tomatoes simply refused to turn red. They stayed a stubborn, pale pink, looking more like shy peaches than ripe produce.
One sunny afternoon, while taking a stroll down the lane, she passed the garden of her neighbor, Mr. Henderson. His garden was legendary in the neighborhood. It was bursting with massive, vibrant, deep-red tomatoes that looked like they belonged in a magazine cover.
Intrigued, Beatrice stopped at the fence. “Mr. Henderson,” she asked, “your garden is absolutely stunning. What on earth do you do to get your tomatoes so perfectly red?”
Mr. Henderson leaned on his hoe, smiled mysteriously, and lowered his voice. “Well, it’s a special technique I developed. Twice a day, I stand right in front of my tomato patch and… expose myself.”
Beatrice blinked, confused. “Excuse me?”
“I expose myself,” he repeated with a straight face. “And my tomatoes turn red from blushing so much.”
Beatrice was skeptical but desperate. She decided to try this bizarre method herself. So, for two weeks, twice a day—once in the morning and once in the evening—she went out to her backyard, stood before her pale tomato plants, and exposed herself, hoping for a blush-induced ripening.
After fourteen days of this routine, she saw very little change in the tomatoes. One day, Mr. Henderson was walking by and noticed her standing in the garden. He called out cheerfully, “By the way, Beatrice, how did you make out? Did your tomatoes finally turn red?”
Beatrice sighed, shaking her head. “No, the tomatoes are still pale. But…” She paused, a strange look crossing her face.
“My cucumbers are enormous.”
